Things to do in Houston during the Holidays

I enjoyed an evening out exploring my city. First stop was at The Grove Houston where we enjoyed Happy Hour. It is located in the Discovery Green area and has beautiful skyline views. If you know me, you know I have to tell you about the massive oak trees in and around the park.

Happy Hour was located in their Primavera Room which would be perfect for a private events. I love a beautiful event space.

Their Happy Hour drinks include beers ($3), well drinks ($4), house red, rosé, white wine, prosecco ($5) and specialty cocktails ($6).

From having American fare bites with gorgeous views, we experienced "Paloma" a walkable winter art installation by French art collective Pitaya. The install was a two part install that included a flock of 200 "origami" birds that illuminated to create the illusion of flight.

In addition to that is a sound install named "Here and Now" by Houston artist and Rice instructor Lina Dib. I think this was one of my favorite features because it truly brought the visual movement to life. The idea was use bird and human sounds to imitate restlessness when feeling the urge to migrate.

Lastly we wrapped up the evening with ice skating at "The Ice" at Discovery Green. You really feel like you have been transported to a winter fun land with the largest outdoor ice skating surface (in the southwest). The DJ was great playing ALL the old school and new hits. Made you feel like you were in a winter version of Roll Bounce. Plus the lights were a very nice touch.

We took a break and enjoyed Mulled Wine ($5) and Hot Chocolate ($3) from The Lake House right next to "The Ice". It was my first time trying mulled wine and I have been missing out on life - delicious. We already know hot chocolate is ALWAYS good so you can't go wrong there.

This is the perfect date night package or girl's night out or just another reason to get out and celebrate the holiday season in Houston.

I was able to enjoy this event courtesy of the Discovery Green and The Grove Houston and I want you to be able to enjoy an evening too! I am giving away two "The Ice" tickets for you to have a smooth and icey (such a stretch Lauren...goodness...just roll with me here) night. To enter, like the blog post and leave a comment. I will select and announce the winner this Wednesday (December 18th). Good luck!
